Vinyasa Vinyasa means "to place in a special way." Vinyasa was developed in India by Krishnamacharya who was a teacher to Ashtanga founder Pattabhi Jois. Asana's ( yoga poses) are placed in flows at a faster pace. We move through Sun Salutations, vinyasa flows, standing balance, twists, forward folds, core work and deep stretching. We have beginner, all levels and advanced classes. In all levels and up it is common to begin to work on arm balancing poses like crow and firefly as well as inversions like headstand, forearm stand and handstand. Vinyasa is a fun style with fun music with importance placed on breath, alignment and form. Classes are different every time, there is no set sequence. Rocket Rocket is a progressive form of Ashtanga Yoga. Traditional Ashtanga is taught in series, beginning with the Primary Series. Students are given one pose at a time and do not progress further until they have mastered the pose and the teacher gives them a new one. There are 4 series of Ashtanga. Ashtanga was developed in India by Sri. K. Pattahbi Jois. Practicing a set sequence gives a student perspective, you notice your progression and it allows you to move into a state of Vinyasa Krama, or meditative movement syncing with your breath. It is very difficult to become a traditional Ashtanga teacher, teachers must travel to Mysore, India and practice at KPJAYI Ashram until permission is given to teach Ashtanga. Rocket was developed by teacher Larry Shultz who was yoga teacher to the Grateful Dead. Bob Weir coined the term Rocket, because it gets you there faster. Rocket is divided into series as well that are set, combining the Primary and Secondary Series of Ashtanga with key advanced poses of the 3rd and 4th series. Students can progress and modifications are given to allow access to all levels and incorporates music. Rocket also provides an opportunity when traditional Ashtanga teachers are not available in your area. Our teacher Brenn currently offers level 1 and 2 Rocket. Power Power yoga was originally a western off-shoot of the Ashtanga Primary Series put together by Beryl Bender Birch. Today it can refer to any kind of more vigorous asana practice, typically incorporates a bit more core work, and like Vinyasa and Ashtanga incorporates breath with movement. Gentle This class is preformed almost entirely on the floor with the use of chairs when needed. Great for seniors and provides a nice break more vigourus styles. Yin A more restorative practice with longer holds of poses. Physically yin yoga is working on our connective tissues and fascia, we must hold poses for longer 3-7 minutes to allow release to happen. Can help with pain, flexibility, insomnia, anxiety and more. Yin is based in Traditional Chinese Medicine which follows energy lines called merdians in the body. These lines on energy flow through and are associated with the organs. This every is Qi (or Chi) and its healthy flow is associated with radiant health. Yoga Nidra Yoga Nidra means Yoga Sleep. The ulitimate relaxation. Students are taken through verbal cues that put each part of the body to rest. Bringing the student into a state of conscious deep sleep. This brings fresh awareness to the thoughts and emotions and leaves the student feeling refreshed and restored. Alignment In this class a few poses are chosen to work on, starting with Sun Salutations, always includes a strong core portion, and ends with myofascial release, a yin or restorative pose. Come with any questions or things you want to work on. Yoga Fit Starts and ends standing ,classic yoga poses with added strength training. Class Passes First class is free! Drop in is only $10.
